These days, a lot of children are struggling with stressors and behavioral disorders. The challenging issues they face make it difficult for them to learn and grow in a classroom, at school, at home, and in the community. Introducing social-emotional learning (SEL) at the elementary level establishes a healthy foundation for student wellbeing and a positive school community, and evidence-based Tier 1 interventions play an important role in overall success.
What is a Tier 1 Intervention Program?
SEL lessons build the foundation of skills and mindset that all students need for learning and for life. A holistic Tier 1 program, with a curriculum and targeted interventions, builds school-wide capacity. Students and educators gain common language around social-emotional wellbeing, as students learn the vocabulary, skills, and mindset to find healthy success in school and life.
What It Does
As children experience a Tier 1 intervention, they benefit from additional support to learn how to tap into their internal locus of control, gaining the skills to listen to their inner coach and tune out their inner critic. These skills help anyone navigate difficult times in a positive, healthy way.
In addition, Tier 1 interventions help students learn about who they are as an individual, in order to make the best personal habits and changes. With a stronger self-identity, students are better able to regulate emotions and make more meaningful connections in and outside the classroom.
