Discover What It Takes to Become an Architect

If you are considering going to NAAB Accredited Architecture Schools, you are considering going down a path that can help you secure your future. However, becoming an architect is not something that happens overnight. According to the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, it can take up to 11 years to get your license as an architect.

Attending NAAB Accredited Architecture Schools is not like going to school to become an interior designer. Interior design programs take about two years. In order to become an architect, you are going to need to study for at least five years to get an undergraduate architecture degree. You will need three more years of professional internships, which will allow you to complete the Architecture Experience Program (AXP).

There are several curriculums available. As an aspiring architect, you could be in school for between five and seven years to just get the basics. But you also need to have hands-on experience in order to receive the accreditation that allows you to work on your own as an architect. You will also need to pass numerous rigorous exams.

In order to prepare for these exams, you can download exam guides that can help you walk through some of the types of questions you might find on the exam. It is good to think about the rigorous study that will be required before committing yourself to becoming an architect.
